Volunteering
We couldn't do what we do without volunteers. What would you like to do? We're open to all suggestions and would love to give you a tour and talk to you about how you'd like to help. You make a difference anytime Monday–Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM or Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Volunteer opportunities last 2 - 4 hours per week. Regular volunteers are encouraged.
Your special skills and talents are always welcome. Please feel free
to share your expertise with us. Contact Molly MacBean, Community Liaison at 804-355-5717 or mmacbean@circlecenterads.org for more information and to set up an appointment to come see the center. We'll train you and get you comfortably oriented so you can share with us!
Some examples of our volunteer opportunities:
Crafts-simple woodworking, needlework, art, and crafts are part of our daily activities.
Games- Come play with us- bingo, ring-toss, dominos and cards are just a
few of the many games we play daily. Perhaps you can teach us new
games. Gardening- green thumb? Many of our participants love
having someone help them tend the flowers that are planted outside and
in the sun porches. Breakfast, snack & lunch time- help
our participants enjoy their morning or afternoon snacks, or assist
them at breakfast or lunch time. Adopt-a-friend- enjoy time
talking and sharing special moments with our participants. They really
like to make new friends, and soon you'll be part of our family. Stretch & stroll- come "stretch" with our participants and then
accompany them on a stroll around the center.
Sing- a- long & storytelling- join our participants during several
of their favorite times of day. Bring your own stories or we can
provide them. Office assistant/receptionist- answer the phone,
make copies, address envelopes, and assist with other office jobs that
you enjoy and are essential to our success.

Meet some of our volunteers:
Nyler volunteered all summer and was a great asset to the Center before he left for college to study computer science in Petersburg. Nyler was as much a regular at Circle Center Adult Day Services as his grandmother, Queen, who has been a participant since 2007. Nyler helped serve meals and lead activities, and lent his support wherever it was needed. There wasn't much he didn't do! Nyler plans to volunteer during breaks from school. He recommends the Center to friends whose families are looking for adult day services.
It is hard to imagine a more versatile
or dedicated volunteer than Audrey. A talented clay and mixed
media artist with gallery space at Crossroads Art Center, Audrey
learned about Circle Center a year ago from the artist-daughter of one
of our participants. Audrey’s love of and talent with clay grew from
the southwest phase of her life and has played out at Circle Center in
her lead role donating and securing auction art for the hugely
successful 2009 BOOMER BALL. For the past year Audrey has also
volunteered two afternoons a week here, sharing what some would call a
“ministry of presence”, eliciting and listening to important life
stories that need to be told and deserve to be heard. Now she is adding
a third visit each week, leading a group of six participants in an
ambitious several-month project to create a work of art for the BOOMER
BALL 2010 auction.
Volunteers come all week and help out in a variety of ways. Bill helps every day with lunch. Some help shop at Sam's Club and Ukrops. Rachel comes each Wednesday to lead a discussion around Dear Abby topics. She really gets the blood flowing!
UPS Freight comes each Wednesday to help with breakfast as part of the United Way campaign. UPS, Tredegar, the Federal Reserve and Universal Leaf all volunteered for our Carnival Day.
